NOTTING HILL / NOTTING HILL DUB (ALDBS7013)

OJAH FEAT. NIK TORP

We present to you our last release of this bizarre year, thirteenth release on 7” format, a new collaboration between Ojah and Nik Torp, keyboard player from The Specials.

The A side contains the track “Notting Hill”, a tribute to the famous carnival (greatly missed this year) featuring sounds of the vintage and rare Yamaha SK-20 organ played by Nik over a riddim formed by 80’s & 90’s synths and drum machines. Underlying the whole riddim is the recording of a baby’s heartbeat in the womb.

On the B side we find a dub version as is customary, sparse and full of fx, reminiscent of those open air dub sessions at Notting Hill Carnival, mixed live by Ojah on his analog console.

Limited edition of 350 copies, hand-stamped and hand-numbered, served in a thick custom reversed kraftliner sleeve.

Produced by Ojah, recorded at Alchemy Dubs Studio, London.

Organ by Nik Torp, recorded at Eastcote Studio 4, London.

Mixed & mastered by Oscar Pablos “Ojah" at Alchemy Dubs Studio, London, 2020.

Graphic design by Victor Castro.

RESILIENCE / RESILIENCE DUB (ALDBS7012)

OJAH FEAT. CHAZBO & YUURI BAMBOO

We present to you our twelfth release on 7” format, a collaboration between Ojah, Chazbo & Yuuri Bamboo.

The A side contains the track “Resilience”, a melodica version over a 90’s inspired steppers riddim. The first verse is played by UK Dub legend Chazbo, while the second verse is played by Japanese melodica player Yuuri Bamboo, bringing to the table two unique and different yet complementary melodica styles. On the B side we find a hypnotic and adventurous stripped-down dub version, reminiscent of those early morning dubs at a Shaka session, mixed live in analog by Ojah at his studio.

Limited edition of 350 copies, hand-stamped and hand-numbered, served in a thick custom reversed kraftliner sleeve. Produced by Ojah, recorded at Alchemy Dubs Studio, London. Melodica by Chazbo & Yuuri Bamboo, recorded at Roots Temple Studio, Japan. Mixed & mastered by Oscar Pablos “Ojah" at Alchemy Dubs Studio, London, 2020. Graphic design by Victor Castro.

Alpha & Omega - Alchemy / Alchemy Dub (Ojah rfx) - ALDBS7010

Alpha & Omega / Ojah

We proudly present to you on our 10th 7inch release, and for the first time ever on vinyl, the suitably named tune "Alchemy" by UK Dub legends Alpha & Omega. This track first appeared on their album "Serious Joke" from 2002 (on CD format).

The A side contains the original version from 2002 that was included on the album, now remastered for vinyl. “Alchemy” is a reinterpretation of the far east sound in classic Alpha & Omega’s style: dense, deep and profoundly meditational; and as usual featuring a gargantuan bass that will surely test some systems.

The B side contains a new dub version by Ojah that features heavy use of effects in a UK nineties style, perfectly complementing Alpha & Omega’s original version.

Limited edition of 600 copies, hand-stamped and hand-numbered, served in a thick custom reversed kraftliner sleeve with inner black sleeves.

Written by C. Woodbridge & J. Sprosen Recorded & mixed by A&O at A&O Studio, London 2002 Refix & mastering by Oscar Pablos "Ojah" at Alchemy Dubs Studio, London 2020 Graphic design by Víctor Castro

Ode To Joy (Babylon Can't Control I) - Versions - ALDBS12005

Cornell Campbell meets Soothsayers - Ojah/Ruv Bytes

We proudly present our fifth release on 12” format, a very special EP featuring new versions of reggae anthem “Ode To Joy (Babylon Can’t Control I)” by Cornell Campbell and Soothsayers.

This track first appeared on their album “Cornell Campbell Meets Soothsayers - Nothing Can Stop Us” (Strut Records, 2013).

These versions are remixes and new dub mixes from Ojah and Ruv Bytes and come in a limited edition of 600 copies (no repress), 180g heavyweight 12” vinyl, hand-numbered. A1 - Ode To Joy (Babylon can’t control I) - Ojah remix A2 - Dub To Joy (Babylon can’t control I) - Ojah remix dub B1 - Ode to joy (Babylon can’t control I) - Ruv Bytes mix B2 - Ode to joy instrumental - Ojah mix Here’s the story of the record in David Katz’s own words: "Travelling to Japan was the culmination of a longstanding dream, the maiden voyage undertaken in 2013 on the invitation of Masaya Hayashi of Drum ‘n’ Bass Records, Osaka; Masa arranged for me to play at his club, Night Wax, and at a warehouse near Nagoya, with my debut gig in Tokyo taking place at Club Open, a basement dive in Shinjuku, where I played til sunrise to an enthusiastic underground crowd. I was fortunate to return for more gigs in 2014, the longer stay allowing exploration of other parts of the country, always encountering reggae in unexpected places and being introduced to various traditional forms of Japanese music and culture. This sparked a plan for me to graft traditional Japanese instruments onto original reggae rhythms, which a small Arts Council England grant finally allowed in the spring of 2016. Haruyasu “Big H” Kudoh, who runs Open and who has worked with Dennis Bovell and other reggae greats, connected me with the openminded musician, Ras Kanto, who arranged to rent a three-stringed shamisen, a taishokoto or Nagoya harp, which uses typewriter keys to vary pitch, and a series of wooden temple blocks, or mokugyo, which Big H augmented with an ancient hard-carved mokugyo which is a family heirloom, along with temple bells. Armed with three rhythms provided by my friends, Soothsayers, the Brixton-based hybrid band drawing from reggae, dub, jazz and Afrobeat, whose album Nothing Can Stop Us was created with Jamaican legend Cornell Campbell, I arranged for Kanto and Big H to overdub the traditional instruments onto the rhythm tracks in a marathon live session at Open, conducted over the course of an afternoon and evening. I later arranged for the Osaka-based engineer and dub master Ruv Bytes to conjure individual dub mixes of each of the tunes, the first of which, “Jah Jah Me No Born Yah,” was released in 2018 by Riddim Chango Records, together with alternate mixes by OBF, Ticklah and Bim One. Now the second track from the collaborative sessions, “Ode To Joy (Babylon Can’t Control I)” is here presented in a custom-made limited edition by Alchemy Dubs, with Ruv’s dub mix complemented by individual re-castings from Ojah. Listen and enjoy the melding of disparate worlds…”. David Katz (www.davidkatz.tk) A Soothsayers and David Katz production, written by Robin Hopcraft and Idris Rahman. Bowl Go, Packy Come - ALDBS12004

Vin Gordon & the Alchemy Dubs Allstars

We are delighted to present our fourth release on 12” format, a very special collaboration with legendary Jamaican trombone player Vin Gordon

ALCHEMY DUBS PRESENTS: VIN GORDON & THE ALCHEMY DUBS ALL STARS - BOWL GO, PACKY COME EP

"Bowl go, packy come" is an old Jamaican proverb equivalent to “what goes around comes around”, or in a more positive form “one good turn deserves another”. In this EP it symbolises the migrations and cultural exchanges between Jamaica and UK and back from UK to Jamaica and the rest of the world, pretty similar to the life journey of Vin Gordon himself. The music and the artwork here try to represent that continuum of exchange between both shores.

The Ep contains two uptempo instrumental tracks that are a mix of classic Jamaican sounds with a UK influence, combining classic live instrumentation and modern programming. Each track comes with it’s own dub version mixed analog live by Ojah in traditional fashion.

Also available complementing this release is ALDBS7008 “What Goes Around Comes Around”, a 7” that contains an additional Hammond and melodica solo version and an additional dub of the “Packy” riddim.

The Alchemy Dubs Allstars are (in alphabetical order): -Vin Gordon: trombone -Javier Martin Boix: lead guitar -Santi Mijarra “Puppa Shan”: rhythm guitar -Oscar Pablos “Ojah”: keys, drums, programming & percussion -Nikolaj Torp Larsen “Nik Torp”: Hammond & melodica -Jaime Zugasti “Jamez”: drums on Bowl go

Limited edition of 600 copies, 180g heavyweight 12” vinyl, hand-numbered, served in a spined sleeve with outstanding artwork by Victor Castro.

Hammond & melodica recorded by Nik Torp at Squat Sound Studio, London, UK, 2015 Percussion & keys recorded by Ojah at Rollover Studios, London, UK, 2015 Trombone recorded by Jamez at Black Lindy Studio, London, UK, 2015 Guitars recorded by Puppa Shan at Discoinferno, Madrid, Spain, 2018 All tracks produced, mixed and mastered by Oscar Pablos “Ojah” at Alchemy Dubs Studio, London, UK, 2018 Graphic design by Victor Castro
